Proud as a peacock
Darwin already described the peacock’s nuptial plumage to have evolved through sexual selection. The proud males try to impress the females by displaying their colorful, glimmering coat.
Iridescent tail feathers, complex ornaments and a prominent striking fan are indicating a healthy, vital mating partner to the females. The colors of the feathers change dependent on the angle of incident light.

They have such beautiful plumage. I know of a peacock who has never mated because he’s completely white. His name is Snowflake and not a single female has given a chance.

White ones are rare and have a mutation causing a lack of pigments. Poor snowflake – I think the white ones are especially beautiful… I should tell this a peahen 😉
