Sound of music
This famous movie of the Trapp Family playing in Salzburg is basically unknown in Austria. The film is full of stereotypes and clichés. Thousands of tourists come to visit the scenes that mostly are just fake. Do not get me wrong, Salzburg is an absolutely beautiful and picturesque baroque town but probably won’t fulfill the illusion set through the Edelweiß singing Trapps.
Instead, Mozart and classical music are everywhere, even the street art is determined by its own rhythm.
The dome is magnificent and pompous. Once a year, during the Salzburg Festivals, its front serves as backdrop of Hofmannsthal’s “Jedermann” (Everyman). Enjoy a concert, play, exhibition or puppetry while visiting this enchanting town. Art is all around you.
Salzburg has its special charm in every season. However, visiting Mirabell garden in full bloom should be on your list.
Salzburg is surrounded by “holy” mountains, the Kapuzinerberg (Capuchin mountain) and the Mönchsberg (Monk’s mountain). Take a walk to either top, one hosting the famous Fortress Hohensalzburg. Both provide you with marvellous views around the old town and make you realise how close the Alps are.

I hadn’t seen this post before and regret having missed it as it is fantastic street art. I am also happy to learn about the fake story of the Trapp family. I could have imagined there and Im not surprised. Still is a movie that I remember well and enjoyed so much…
Slazburg is a gorgeous city and it’s been many year since I last visited it.
Thanks for this beautiful post.
